Overview

The Narrative

Qasinet is a full-stack airtime and data bundle reselling platform built for the Kenyan market. Customers pick a service, enter a phone number and amount, approve an M-Pesa STK push on their phone, and the airtime or bundle is delivered automatically within moments. It supports airtime for Safaricom, Airtel, Telkom, Equitel and Faiba, plus Faiba data bundles. How it works Every purchase goes through a single checkout entry point that validates input, checks whether the service is enabled, and confirms the merchant has enough float with the vending provider before any payment prompt is sent. This stops customers paying for something that can’t be delivered. Each order moves through a defined state machine, from payment pending to payment confirmed, vending and success. If vending fails after payment, the order is flagged for refund and both the customer and the admin are alerted by email. A scheduled reconciliation job queries Safaricom and Kyanda directly to resolve orders that missed their callbacks, so none stay stuck. Admin dashboard Full transaction view with search and filters A dedicated M-Pesa reconciliation log (receipt code, phone, time, service, amount) with CSV export A service control panel to lock or unlock any service instantly, with a recorded reason and no redeploy Live provider balance monitoring Secure account settings: password change, and email change verified by one-time code Email alerts for refund-pending transactions Engineering and delivery Stack: Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase (database and auth), Vercel hosting, Safaricom Daraja (payments), Kyanda (vending), Resend (transactional email). Custom domain with DNS configuration, and SEO work including structured data, a dynamic sitemap and Search Console submission. An automated test suite of over 200 tests, plus a separate live end-to-end harness with spend caps and confirmation prompts for safely testing real payments. Developer handover documentation covering architecture, integration quirks and an operations runbook.

Strategy & Execution

How we cracked the brief.

01

The Challenge

The client wanted to sell airtime and data bundles online to Kenyan customers, paid by M-Pesa and delivered instantly with no manual work. That sounds simple, but the risks are real: a customer can pay and not receive anything, the merchant’s balance with the vending provider can run out mid-sale, payment callbacks can go missing and leave orders stuck, and the provider can change or discontinue products without warning. The client also needed to run it without a developer on call.

02

Our Approach

We began by studying the provider and payment APIs in detail and mapping every point where money and delivery could get out of sync. Instead of building a simple checkout, we designed the purchase flow as a tracked sequence of states, from payment pending through to delivered or flagged for refund. Safeguards came first: a balance check before any payment prompt, background reconciliation against Safaricom and the provider, and clear refund alerts. We then built and verified one service at a time against the live gateways, with spend caps and confirmation prompts on every real-money test. When the provider discontinued electricity, TV and water, we retired them cleanly without disrupting the services that were live.

03

The Solution

Qasinet is a fast, mobile-friendly platform where customers choose a network or bundle, approve an M-Pesa prompt on their phone, and receive airtime or data automatically. Behind it, a single hardened checkout validates every order, confirms the merchant can fulfil it and tracks it to completion. If delivery ever fails after payment, the order is flagged, the customer sees a clear message and the admin is alerted by email. The admin dashboard gives the owner full visibility and instant control, including pausing any service with a recorded reason. The platform launched with airtime for five networks and Faiba bundles. A Bingwa Sokoni bundle integration is built and ready to switch on once credentials are issued.
